Regularly check your tyre pressure

Correct inflation improves fuel economy and extends tyre life — and takes a couple of minutes to check.

Regularly check your tyre pressure

Tyre pressure is one of the most overlooked parts of car care. Keeping your tyres at the right pressure improves fuel economy, handling and braking, and makes the tyres last longer.

Why pressure matters

  • Poor fuel economy — underinflated tyres create more rolling resistance.
  • Uneven wear — overinflation wears the centre of the tread, underinflation wears the edges.
  • Reduced grip — dangerous in wet weather.

How to check it

  • Find the recommended pressure on the placard in the driver's door jamb or in the owner's manual.
  • Check when the tyres are cold — before driving, or at least three hours after.
  • Towing a caravan or carrying a load? The placard often lists a higher pressure.

How often

  • At least once a month, and before any long trip.
  • Don't forget the spare — a flat spare is no use at the roadside.
  • Call in to Tingal Rd and we'll check all four plus the spare for free.
